October 2023 Update

Thank you to everyone who took an interest in our recent online meeting. We would like to thank our counsellors Vivienne Windle, Steve Leggett and Pat Evemy for their continued support, and contributions to our agenda. We would also like to thank SCC Ranger Dawn Bannatyne, and Jill Doubleday from Wilder Hampshire for attending and sharing their plans and advice with us.

Here are a few updates on our activities:

To-Let Signs

We are most grateful to Cllr Vivienne Windle for her ongoing work in reducing the To-Let signs left on our streets. She is working alongside SCC Planning Enforcement Officers who are currently taking note of unauthorised boards and banners. We would like to contribute to this very time consuming task by collectively compiling a fresh list of signs. We would greatly appreciate your help in this short form, detailing the signs on your road.

Greening, Gardening and The Polygon Playground

SSC Ranger Dawn Bannatyne is directing a huge amount of energy to Rollesbrook Greenway. After a significant amount of needles were found on the site, the welfare wardens agreed to daily visits with the aim to reduce anti-social behaviour in the area. There is some clearance work scheduled for the wood to increase the woodland quality and make the site more appealing to visitors. If you would like to get hands on with this, the work is scheduled for 21st November 2023. Please email us to participate. There are also ongoing meetings with landscaping experts to address the nature of the path.

The Milton Road planter is in need of some TLC. Jill Doubleday (Wilder Hampshire) is currently advising us on how to bring a bit more green to The Polygon and Bedford Place. The community garden has survived its first summer, and volunteers are doing their bit when they can. We welcome anyone to take the initiative to do a bit of weeding, or a litter pick but if you would like some company, please email to get in touch!

The planning and installation of the Polygon Playground equipment is still ongoing, and we hope to report with good news soon.

Bins, fly-tipping and the alleyways...

This is a constant conversation! We look forward to some official updates about proposed reforms in a meeting scheduled for next week. As always we continue to advocate for sensible and practical solutions to our ongoing and reasonable concerns.

We would encourage everyone to continue reporting our issues using these links. We believe our actions are collectively having positive effects on our community, including the clearance of the Milton/Wilton alleyway last August.

Thank you to all our volunteers who distributed our 2023 leaflet to every house in the Polygon. If you would like a copy, or a few to distribute please let us know.
